Beth Guertal, professor of turfgrass and nutrient management in the Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences, has been named the Auburn University College of Agriculture’s first Rowe Endowed Professor. The endowed professorship was established by 1978 Auburn alumni Mike and Leann Rowe to support tenured faculty who have demonstrated strong commitment to students, teaching, research and service.

“We are grateful to the Rowes for making this award possible, and we are proud of faculty like Dr. Guertal who reflect such a clear commitment to excellence,” said Paul Patterson, dean of Auburn’s College of Agriculture and director of the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station.

Since joining the Auburn faculty in 1993, Guertal has received numerous teaching and student advising awards, including the university’s Leischuck Endowed Presidential Award for Excellence.

As a soil scientist, she is one of only three women in the world who is a fellow of the American Society of Agronomy, the Soil Society of America and the Crop Science Society of America. She was recently elected president of the Crop Science Society of America.

Mike and Leann Rowe, of Tampa, are longtime supporters of Auburn’s colleges of Agriculture, Human Sciences and Liberal Arts.
